Club 7’s Success

The Southern 7-aside team won the first tournament in the Dunedin club rugby 7-aside competition last Saturday.

All of Dunedin’s premier clubs entered a team which was played at Kettle Park . Southern were in a pool with Zingari and University and won both games comfortably. They then played 2017 champs Alhambra-Union in the semi-final and Taieri in the final.

The Southern team was a mix of Premier players with support from up and coming Colts players and also two Senior team players. Southern had the edge over most other teams with more players capable of breaking the line and enough pace to take their opportunities. They were led by the electric Mackenzie Haugh, with great support from Riku Kitahara, and Jono Hayes. The team defended well across the park.

The second (and final) round takes place at  Green Island’s Miller Park on Saturday 6th Oct.
