Great results see Southern make 4 semis
Some big results on Saturday saw four of our five Southern teams qualifying for semi-finals this Saturday. A great result for the club.
The biggest result saw our Premier side, who finished 6th qualifier, stand up and show their true potential with hard forward play and tough defence to beat top qualifier Taieri on their home patch at Peter Johnstone Park. They won in a low scoring but extremely exciting match 7-5. They move into the 3rd seeded spot for the semi against University who they beat earlier in the season for the Cavanagh Trophy. This will be played at University Oval at 2.15pm.
The Magpie Colts, who qualified 2nd, beat Kaikorai 24-22 in a close encounter with goal kicking being the difference. They will play a home semi-final against Dunedin Makos at noon.
The Ravens Colts lost to Dunedin Tigers 26-22 despite a late comeback in their top 6 playoff, however due to their finishing position in the top 6 and the results of the other games, get another life and will take on top seed Kaikorai Cobras at Bishopscourt at noon.
The Seniors rested a few battered players in their final round robin match of the season and lost 26-5 against top of the table Harbour. They still easily qualified for the semi finals this weekend in 3rd place. They will take on Kaikorai at Bishopscourt at 2.15pm
The only team to miss the playoff was our Premier Development team (Prem 2s), however they put in a competitive performance against a spirited Kaikorai side going down 31-17. They finished the season in 7th place.
