Highlanders junior rugby club day a success

Posted on

The Highlanders along with partner Placemakers initiated a new event involving the Junior Clubs of the Highlanders region last Saturday night.
The “We love rugby” promotion invited every junior registered rugby player in the region to attend the Highlanders v Stormers game at the Forsyth Barr Stadium. Players had to wear their rugby jersey for free entry. They were housed in the Zoo area and made as much noise as the students usually do.
At half time a relay race involving 4 players (from the U5, U7, U8, &U9 teams) each running 50 metres took place. Sometimes the most simple plan can be the most exciting entertainment. Harbour won the race with Southern hot on their heals in 3rd place of about 15 clubs. All the crowd got in behind the runners cheering them on.
At the end of the game the Stadium allowed all the junior players to run on the field and meet the Highlanders – quite a treat for the excited players.
Thank you to the Highlanders and Placemakers (and other support sponsors). It was a great initiative and it hopefully will become an annual event, ideally when the season is underway to fill the Zoo completely.
