U12 & U13 teams in Club finals

Posted on

Our Southern Magpie U12 & U13 teams will play the final of their grades this Saturday 11th August.

The U13s have gone unbeaten throughout their time in the Club in tackle rugby (U8s)  and likely also in Rippa Rugby – although scores in Rippa grades are not always recorded. It has been a well drilled team with a host of talented players. It was coached for the majority of years by Brett McCormack. With his son moving onto Kings HS this year Rea Cordtz took over the head reigns and was supported by former Southern player Dan Parkinson.

Their dominance of the grade resulted in them being pushed into the U14 grade to match up against some High School teams, who they also beat. Their semi final resulted in a 100 point defeat of Kaikorai. They will play arch rival Pirates in a repeat of the U11 and U12 finals, although Pirates have never defeated them in any clash. The game will take place at Kettle Park No 1 at 11.15am.

The U12 Magpies have developed well over the past 2 years and climbed to be the top ranked team in their grade this season. They will play Taieri Blue in the final. They have had two close matches during the year. The team is coached by Robert Stout and Grant Stumbles, with support at times from Jason Cook and Dave Clement. Their final will be the “curtain- raiser” to the the U13 final and will be on Kettle Park No 1 at 10am.

Southern have had a lot of success in recent years in the Junior grades and have a well run club led by some very dedicated volunteers. We urge all supporters to get along and watch the next generation play in the black and white hoops on Saturday morning.
